We did not get an invitation! I was visiting a friend on the other side of town and she showed me the invitation that was left in her door, We had a good laugh and I offered her $1000 to go and partake but she said no. -

would it have been different if we knew why?
by sowhatnow ini always took issue with the idea of no one knowing why a person got df.. i know im not alone.. i complained to my mother about this when i was younger, explaining that how do we know what it is that gets a person df if no one knows what they did?
my moms answer was , .
'if people knew a persons personal faults and what they did , others would not be so forgiving when they were reinstated, because we'd always view them with that view, so in other words, if when so n so, committed fornication, and the whole cong would know it, if they announced from the platform then his/her reputation would be permanently stained' .

when I was an active witness, there was only one disfellowshipping of a member of the congregation. To this day I have no idea what he did to get DFd. I seriously doubt it was drugs or alcohol or infidelity, in retrospect I assume it was some sort of apostasy. But I don't actually know and I was never privy to any gossip about it. He got reinstated and never came to another meeting. The only other serious JC case involved an elder who was getting too friendly with a coworker. He avoided getting DFd, but all the details of his indiscretions were widely known throughout the congregation. As far as I know, neither man is currently attending meetings. -

What is dating as a JW like
by UFCFan infirst off i want to say that i'm a teenager which makes my situation interesting.
i don't want to give too many details in case someone i know reads this but i'm between 14 and 18, homeschooled, and i've been awake for around one or one and a half years.
i already have a plan to attend usc or wisconsin university if i'm smart enough to get in and then move to san jose and try and get a job working for a hs football team or with a soccer team, since i want to coach sports or be an agent.. now, this all sounds great in theory but there's one thing i've been thinking about that makes me doubt my plan.

I will tell you that relationships formed under false pretenses never ever work out. If you aren't on the same page as her with regard to the religion, it will be a miserable, life destroying experience. I recommend that you escape, go to college, and work hard to develop your career. If she wants out of the borg, she needs to do it for herself and not because of you. That's the only way a relationship between you could ever work. I wish you the best of luck! -

Ayn Rand - Opinions?
by cappytan infor those of you familiar with ayn rand and her ideas on morality, rationality and reason, what is your opinion of those ideas?.
i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.
do you think she's a charlatan?

“Tell me what a man finds sexually attractive,” Rand wrote, “and I will tell you his entire philosophy of life.”
I'd love to know how this works.

Bali Nine
by smiddy intheir are two australian guys scheduled for execution in indonesia in the very near future for drug smuggling , they were the ring leaders of seven others involved.this happened a number of years ago when the australian authourities notified their indonesian counterparts that drugs were to be smuggled out of indonesia into australia by australian citizens .. some argue , why didn` t the australian authourities simply arrest these people on arrival in australia where no capital punishment is on the agenda .. by all accounts they have now been on death row for many years and have turned their lives around , being role models to other prisoners and changing their lives .. i personally have mixed feelings about all this and would like your input .. should these two be executed ?.
should they spend the rest of their life in an indonesian jail .
should they be given an alternative sentence .?.

I don't believe that the death penalty is an appropriate sentence for any crime except murder. I also don't believe that taking, selling, manufacturing or otherwise engaging in the drug trade should be illegal anyway. I do however accept that other countries are free to make laws as they see fit, and I am free to not visit those places. It was crappy of the Australian government to manipulate the situation the way they did, but the men involved knew the risks and therefore are to blame for their own predicament. -

It would have been interesting if, instead of funding her surgery and providing benefits, the government had turned her away with the comment that she herself was opposed to taking such benefits..... -

Exposing one's identity. When?
by kairos ini've been toying with the idea of just coming out and posting my name and location as an attempt to be available to locals that secretly browse the forum that have known me for up to 25 years.
( "reaching out", so to speak ).
i'm not da'd or df'd, so this most certainly could end in a dramatic confrontation.

Listen, if there is physical abuse, you need to get out and stay out. Your spouse is showing serious warning signs that he is truly dangerous. I know how badly the elders and other witnesses will treat you if you do anything they disapprove of, but staying and getting yourself killed isn't going to win you a ticket to paradise. Keep on reading and posting here for support, but you really really need to cut that man out of your life.
